Session on ‘Mental Well-Being’ By Mrs. Maneesha Pandit

Session on ‘Mental Well-Being’ was conducted by Mrs. Maneesha Pandit, District Extension and Media Officer, Chief Medical & Health Office, Health Department, Madhya Pradesh State Government, (India) for class 7 students of Choithram School on October 17, 2020. Mrs. Pandit mentioned that children are the biggest asset and it is imperative that they maintain good health. According to her good health means being physically, mentally, psychologically and spiritually fit.
She mentioned that social media was an important factor responsible for causing anxiety and depression amongst the adolescents. She further said that teenagers suffer from hormonal changes and crisis of identification and must talk to their friends, family members or counselors when feeling low. Citing the example of Thomas Alva Edison, who did not lose hope in his 1800 attempts while inventing the light bulb, instead said that there was always something new he learnt in every attempt. She also suggested simple tips to children to control their temper viz. meditation, taking a deep breath, counting from 10 to 1 and think of the reason for their anger. To gain self-confidence, she asked the students to never have the fear of failure, instead follow ex- President of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam’s example who always said ‘I can’. At the end of the session students she answered questions put forth by the students related to stress and anxiety.
